Horrible ongoing problems with GE Monogram appliancess

Moved into our custom built house in early 2005. We put GE Monogram appliances (Refrigerator, gas cooktop, vent hood, dishwasher, oven and microwave) exclusively in the kitchen and a GE Profile Washer and dryer in the laundry room. We have experienced nothing but trouble with several of these appliances.

Within the first year, condensation around the ice dispenser on the door of the refrig got so bad that it soaked through and ruined the custom wood panel on the exterior of the door that matched the cabinets. the repairman installed a small heater on the ice dispenser and told me that GE cannot sell the refrig with this heater (which is needed in humid climates) preinstalled because then it (the refrig) would not qualify for the Energy Star rating. the new wood panel (my cost) was quite expensive to replace.

The fresh food side of the refrig stopped cooling recently. The repair required a complete defrosting of the entire unit and moving all contents to iced camping coolers. today, the freezer side of the refrig quit working resulting in much ruined (expensive) food and water all over the kitchen floor as the ice in the freezer melted.

Dishwasher has been repaired 3 times, once due to leaking and twice due to the electronic controls getting wet. the Hood vent has been repaired once.

We just had the Profile washing machine taken to the dump. It has made so much noise for the last two years that you couldn't run it at night as it would keep people awake. the agitator recently broke (the repairman, while at my house to repair the refrig, told me that the agitator would cost $160.00 plus labor to replace) and then the machine started putting grease on our clothes while they were being washed. So numerous ruined clothes later. We just trashed the washer and bought a new one (definitely not GE)

I also had a bad experience with a less than honest salesperson when buying GE extended warranties. If, after what you are reading on this website, you are still thinking about buying GE Monogram appliances, don't even consider not buying the extended warranties, your going to need them.

I always had confidence in GE and their products. The appliances we bought (Monogram) were top of the line. I have never before written a complaint like this but I feel obligated to warn other consumers of the poor quality and performance of these appliances. I will never purchase another appliance made by GE. I think they are complete junk. Consider yourself warned.......
